National Survey from Freedman Consulting and McLaughlin & Associates Shows a Desire for Unity

Freedman Consulting partnered with the polling firm McLaughlin & Associates to undertake a comprehensive survey on general sentiment and issues of interest to many in the philanthropic field. The national survey revealed a public that is deeply concerned about the economy and cost of living but remains open to bipartisanship, and cross-sector solutions.

Voters expressed a clear opinion about unity in American politics: 96% agree that politicians need to stop dividing the country and instead do more to bring Americans together, and 89% agree that politicians should do a better job of compromising and working in a bipartisan manner.

Firm CEO Tom Freedman and Jim McLaughlin co-authored an op-ed in the Washington Post in May 2025 highlighting this desire for common ground and issues that found strong bipartisan support – including policies around working training, childcare, and protecting kids online.
